Quality Indicator reporting for the September quarter is due this Wednesday, 21 October — and one rule has changed since last quarter.

From 1 October, only an authorised proxy can complete the Consumer Experience and Quality of Life surveys on a resident's behalf: a legal guardian, a court or tribunal-appointed decision-maker, or a person holding power of attorney. Family members, informal carers and staff can no longer complete those surveys unless they hold that authority. The Quality Indicator Manual has been updated to reflect the change.

Before you submit in GPMS, three checks:

  • Do you know who the authorised proxy is for each resident who cannot complete a survey themselves — and is it recorded?
  • Have staff and families been told the rule has changed?
  • Are your comments meaningful, concise and de-identified, without restating the data?

QI data is part of how your home's quality story is read. Data submitted on the wrong basis is a compliance gap, even when the care was good.
