Public sector case — not an UpHealth Advisory client.
A published Commission performance report described a home where residents were prescribed regular and PRN antipsychotics without a diagnosed condition. Management hadn't recognised this as chemical restraint, and informed consent hadn't been obtained.
The lesson: a psychotropic register — and staff who can explain why each medicine is prescribed — are among the first things an auditor checks.
And a new form isn't a fix on its own. The Commission tests remediation by sampling residents and talking to staff.
